\"Packing2\"<\/a>When the last day of a contract hits, it lands like a ton of bricks. Suddenly all the preparation you\u2019ve already done seems like a drop in the bucket compared to what you\u2019ve got left<\/em> to do, but you can\u2019t for the life of you think of what any of that is<\/em>.<\/p>\n

It was a little different when I knew I would be coming back to the flagship in September, but now that I no longer do the Grand Asian, it\u2019s a little more of a big deal if you leave something behind or forget to complete something before walking down the gangway.<\/p>\n

Then again, I\u2019ve managed to get most of the big stuff done in the last few days. I\u2019m almost finished packing, the book drop is pretty consistently empty (most of the guests are aware that I\u2019m leaving tomorrow afternoon and are pretty understanding about my desire to not leave a mountain of work for my replacement), and the last of the paperwork is finished. Except for my evaluation, which will take place at some point between my afternoon shift and my after-dinner shift. My boss tells me I have nothing to worry about, and for once I\u2019m taking her at her word \u2013usually I fret terribly about my \u201creport card\u201d but this season I find myself in possession of a much more \u201cwhat happens happens\u201d attitude, if I\u2019ve done something terrible enough to warrant a bad grade there\u2019s nothing I can do to change it after all!<\/p>\n

The nice thing is that our call in Victoria tomorrow is an afternoon one instead of a morning, which means I don\u2019t have to suffer through the insanity of the usual early-morning debark\/customs scramble. And I don\u2019t have to pack my linens until the morning, which is also a very nice change.<\/p>\n
