Why my fault?<\/em><\/p>\n

Because you\u2019re the one who keeps running across the street without a crosswalk!<\/em><\/p>\n

You are SO *Canadian*<\/em><\/p>\n

Hmph<\/em><\/p>\n

This is a rather typical conversation when a small town Canadian girl ends up in a huge<\/em> city like Boston, completely in the hands of a best friend who is utterly not afraid to channel his non-Canadian upbringing. I mean me? I\u2019ll wait in the rain on an empty street for the walk signal, but you just can\u2019t get away with that in a place like Boston! So there was a fair bit of linking hands and bolting across the street today.<\/p>\n

As usual, we were working on a compressed time frame, I didn\u2019t get off gangway degree duty until 8:45, which meant we couldn\u2019t get off the ship until after 9, Amras had to play at 12:30 and I had to start my first desk shift of the day at 1pm. AND it\u2019s embark day, with all the controlled insanity that that entails. So, Boston in 3 hours\u2026HA! Can\u2019t be done, but at least a tiny portion of it can be. Making a brief pass by the site of one of the most famous events in Boston history was of course a necessity:<\/p>\n

No brew was made as strong and quaffed
\nAs that night in Boston Harbour!<\/em><\/p>\n

And of course there\u2019s a museum right nearby. Which we didn\u2019t go to today (we just didn\u2019t have time), but the first sight of it had me stopping short and leaning over the railing of the bridge..<\/p>\n

Oooh\u2026.who\u2019s that<\/em><\/p>\n

oh yeah, they have tours of her too\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

Trust me to find the first Tall Ship in sight the second I get off the ship. At which point I reached out and eagerly tugged on my brother\u2019s sleeve.<\/p>\n

You wanna go?<\/em><\/p>\n

Yeah yeah<\/em><\/p>\n

Figured<\/em><\/p>\n

But only so much time in the day, so that particular obsession has to wait until next week.<\/p>\n

Since I\u2019d skipped breakfast and my tummy was growly, a twenty minute walk further on brought us through Quincy Market (reminded me so<\/em> much of Pike Place back home! Except minus the fish), and eventually to the Cheers<\/em> bar, which \u2013 me being me \u2013 put the theme song from the old TV show into my head for the whole rest of the day. But I will say the eggs benedict was pretty much worth it!<\/p>\n

Of course, there\u2019s always the weird switch when you head back to the ship after a day out. Slipping from play mode into work mode is a subtle thing, but it is a necessary change\u2026otherwise there are a fair lot of us who would stay in play mode all the time (hey, it\u2019s definitely a possibility out here)<\/p>\n
