\"Photo<\/a>We got off the ship late today as I had an abandon ship drill and Amras had a training session for the same new alarm system that I\u2019ve been locked up in training for all week, so by the time we got to our regular haunt the line up to get in was just way too long to consider (everything on the menu in that particular restaurant is $5, and the food is excellent\u2026it\u2019s earned that line-up). So we ended up wandering around for a long while, enjoying the cold Quebec sunshine (it\u2019s coming on into fall out here after all) and trying to find somewhere<\/em> to have lunch since we were both starving. Ultimately we ended up at Thai Express, which was new for me because although I have a really fuzzy memory of having thai food before I don\u2019t know when or where. I\u2019m not particularly big on spice, so it was a jolt to my taste buds, but hey I\u2019ll try anything once!<\/p>\n

Thing is, Thai Express doesn\u2019t serve drinks or anything, and since Amras leaves the ship tomorrow we at least wanted to be able to have a toast, so we wandered some more looking for somewhere we could sit and have a relatively quiet drink. First pub we went to wanted $10.50 for a cosmo ha! Don\u2019t think so, so we moved on\u2026until eventually I spied the inevitable Irish pub on the corner.<\/p>\n

Hey there\u2019s always the Irish place.<\/em><\/p>\n

What Irish place?<\/em><\/p>\n

That Irish place, the one right ahead of us.<\/em><\/p>\n

Oh! Oh I totally forgot about that place! Yeah, I\u2019ve been there a couple of times, that\u2019ll do\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

So, another irish bar, another basement<\/em> irish bar (well, lower level at least), we seem to be making a habit of this. But it was quiet, and quaint, the kind of place I could see myself hanging out at if I actually lived in the area.<\/p>\n

So, anything on that rack over there you might want to introduce me to?<\/em><\/p>\n

And Amras takes a long contemplative look at the stock behind the bar and starts to shake his head, and then suddenly he just totally lights up.<\/p>\n

Ooooh have you ever had\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

And he comes out with this crazy German name that I can\u2019t even pronounce let alone spell. I raise an eyebrow at him and shake my head, and tell him that I\u2019ve never even heard<\/em> of it let alone tried it, and he just grins all over his face.<\/p>\n

Oh I get to culture you, so cool.<\/em><\/p>\n

So he orders these two shots, and the bartender puts in front of us what at first glance looks like two shot glasses of totally clear liquid.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re missing something, pick it up, look at it in the light\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

I pick up the glass and hold it up to eye level, and it \u2026sparkles.<\/p>\n

Is that\u2026?<\/em><\/p>\n

Gold. Real gold.<\/em><\/p>\n

You\u2019re kidding me right?<\/em><\/p>\n

Nope.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe drink wine with diamonds in the glass\u2026?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Kinda\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

I must admit that I eyed the glass a bit more respectfully now, I mean how often does a girl get bought a drink that has gold<\/em> in it? But a shot is a shot, and it cannot be left sitting there on the bar. I wasn\u2019t precisely sure what to expect, I mean\u2026drinking gold? But it tasted like French toast! Yummy yumminess!<\/p>\n

So, you just drank gold baby, how do you feel?<\/em><\/p>\n

That\u2026I could get used to that\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n
