Can you hear them? <\/em><\/p>\n

You can\u2019t hear them. <\/em><\/p>\n

That\u2019s okay, no one ever can. Sometimes those of us who do wonder what we\u2019re really hearing, wonder why our temples throb with a phantom pain that we know shouldn\u2019t be there, wonder why we\u2019re on edge, wonder if we really belong in the outside world at all, or if we would be better off somewhere else for everyone\u2019s good.<\/em><\/p>\n

But deep down, we know. We know what we\u2019re hearing. What you can\u2019t hear.<\/em><\/p>\n

You\u2019re still looking at us like we\u2019re crazy. That\u2019s okay, we\u2019re used to that. You can\u2019t hear them, but we can.<\/em><\/p>\n

Voices just at the edge of normal senses, arguing, laughing, tempting, cajoling\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2018Come out, come out wherever you are\u2026we won\u2019t hurt you, you know that, you can trust us. Come out, come out and play\u2026come and be the princess at the party. Don\u2019t worry about the others, they won\u2019t even notice you\u2019re gone\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Snatching whispers at the edge of consciousness. Nearly silent, and yet so very, painfully, Loud.<\/em><\/p>\n

But you don\u2019t hear them.<\/em><\/p>\n

You send your children out into the dark and are ever expectant that they will return, send them out, your ghosts, your goblins, your infant witches, light their way with buck-tooth pumpkins and friendly spirits. Warn them of the dangers of the unknown, of the strangers, but it is not the living strangers you need worry about. Go ahead, enjoy your sugar train, have your fun. Pay no heed to the rest of us, those of us who lock ourselves away, who salt our windows and slip jet black beads around our wrists and \u2018round our necks. <\/em><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t mind us\u2026the ones you think crazy\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

We\u2019re not crazy\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

You just can\u2019t hear them\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

Oh\u2026and one more thing\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n
