\"Jitterbug\"<\/a>There are things that people say when they know you can dance that you just kind of learn to not take seriously. The statement \u201cif they play a fast swing, I\u2019m tossing you on stage\u201d is one of them \u2013 I\u2019ve had people say that to me before, and it\u2019s just such an unthinkable thing that I always laugh it off.<\/p>\n

And then someone actually does it.<\/p>\n

Seroiusly? I could get in HUGE trouble!<\/em><\/p>\n

So blame me, I\u2019m leaving in two days, if there\u2019s trouble I\u2019ll take it<\/em><\/p>\n

Yeah\u2026right<\/em><\/p>\n

That was the extent of the conversation that I had with the ballroom instructor during the Officer\u2019s Ball last night. He had promised me a dance, and we\u2019d agreed to go a bit<\/em> all out, because we could. But I naturally expected that it would be on the floor \u2013 even after the above. I mean we\u2019ve only had one<\/em> dance together and that was over a month ago! So yes, I assumed we would stay on the main dance floor.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

You ready?<\/em><\/p>\n

And then his hands were around my waist and he simply lifted me up onto the stage. I\u2019m enough of a performer that I was able to just go \u201cokay, I\u2019m up here now, guess I\u2019d better just go\u201d<\/p>\n

The first tumble flip the crowd realized what was going on; by the second we were getting cheers, by the third the crowd was ours. And this was complicated stuff, I hadn\u2019t done in a long time, stuff that I didn\u2019t even know I knew<\/em> how to do. Something around five aerials in one number? That\u2019s something you usually have a lot more prep for. Not that I wasn\u2019t happy<\/em>, I mean I was thrilled! But I was spending half of the time trying to make sure I could keep up and the other half being in a silent panic of \u201cohmygoodnessI\u2019mgoingtobeinsomuchtrouble!\u201d because let’s face it, one is not really *supposed* to jump spontaneously up on stage!<\/p>\n

But I will admit\u2026it was pretty awesome. Despite the meltdown I had afterwards due to my irrational fear of getting fired for doing it!<\/p>\n

And the wave of applause that hit me afterward as he spun me out into the classic ballroom bow (double underarm turn, drop to curtesy, I\u2019d never actually had a chance to do it before!) that\u2026that was worth the worry that I had about it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
