\nOh what a perfect surprise
\nJudy\u2019s wearin\u2019 his ring<\/em><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a silly thing really, and yet, it\u2019s somehow not. We do the 50s prom night every northbound cruise, but this is the first time in a while we\u2019ve been able to run it with the band (The absence of a guitar player last cruise made such a thing impossible); and 50s night is something of Amras\u2019 pride and joy.<\/p>\n

So I straightened my dress ponytails, and knocked on his door<\/p>\n

Do I pass inspection\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

I\u2019ll say\u2026you\u2019re like a combo 40s\/50s girl\u2026but with a dragon.<\/em><\/p>\n

I shrugged, and played with the dragon necklace that is basically permanently fastened around my throat.<\/p>\n

Well, I don\u2019t have a class ring to replace him with\u2026I didn\u2019t pack mine, or my Dad\u2019s\u2026that\u2019s usually the one I wear\u2026.<\/em><\/p>\n

And he gets this crazy impish smirk<\/p>\n

Would you like one?<\/em><\/p>\n

You seriously\u2026you didn\u2019t pack your class ring?<\/em><\/p>\n

I did, sometimes I wear it\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

Would you really\u2026trust me with that?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2018Course I would.<\/em><\/p>\n

Eeee!! I\u2019ve been pinned!!<\/em><\/p>\n

So I went up to sock-hop night with a class ring on a chain around my neck. This pleased me an unexpected amount for more than one reason, but a big factor being because well if I\u2019m going to do a theme night, I may as well do it all the way!<\/p>\n

The Hop went well, as it always does \u2013 it basically a guaranteed crowdpleaser, and Amras knows how to chart it so that it runs well no matter who actually ends up hosting it. There is, however, one thing in Alaska that no music \u2013 no matter how well played \u2013 can compete against. Only two songs into the night; black against the vivid Alaskan sunset, the whales started to play. If there is one thing that will distract any crowd from anything, it\u2019s standing at a window and crying \u201cWHALE!\u201d\u2026some things, you\u2019re just never going to win against\u2026<\/p>\n

Though having whales as your competition? That is one of the things that is pretty unique to this job!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
