Or at least they are when it isn\u2019t an evening flight and \u2013 because you insisted on obeying the rules and getting there early \u2013 you\u2019re almost the only one in the terminal.<\/p>\n
Ah well, at least they have proper desks with outlets now, being able to use a laptop makes the time go faster. And when in doubt, I got a new book. I could have brought my old book of course, but I seem to always buy a new book at the airport. One of the things that makes me feel better about being here.<\/p>\n
I am still such a nervous flyer.<\/p>\n
But at least the contract is off to a good start, I didn\u2019t end up paying overage fees on my luggage (I think that may be only the second time in 5.5 years that\u2019s happen\u2026and the TSA staff were super nice, and even made me laugh. Mostly because of the following exchange:<\/p>\n
TSA: “Your shoes set off my machine!”
\nMe: “They did?”
\nTSA: “Yup. Your mary-jane’s have metal supports in the soles”
\nMe: “Oh geeze I’m sorry, I usually remember to take them off!”
\nTSA: “Honey, don’t apologize for having well made shoes. That’s just silly. Off you go now.”<\/p>\n
There was no one in the line up behind me, so I took a minute to tell them how grateful I was that they were always kind and funny; so many airports have security staff that seem determined to be intimidating. I realize that they have an incredibly important job to do, and I would never hinder them in that; but the Victoria staff are just so awesome because they have *fun* while doing the important stuff.<\/p>\n
As far as airports go, this is a comfy one.<\/p>\n
But it always feels so strange, being in between things. Waiting to wing across the sky in a metal tube\u2026hopefully sleeping on the way.<\/p>\n
I hate the leaving part. You would think by now I would be used to it, but even after all this time, I still hate the leaving part\u2026<\/p>\n
