\"\"I have been many things over the last few years, but I have never been a guest on board my own ship. As crew members, we do have the ability to bring friends on board to sail with us; I\u2019ve had someone sail with me<\/em> before, when Amras came to join me on my first computer teacher contract almost two years ago now ; but I\u2019ve never sailed with<\/em> someone.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s\u2026surreal.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s an experience that\u2019s made even more surreal by the fact that the ship I\u2019m sailing on? Is the flagship. My<\/em> flagship. My people, my friends, my crew, my workshop\u2026.the exact same ship I\u2019ll be sailing on as a regular crew member come August.<\/p>\n

Talk about your busman\u2019s holiday!<\/p>\n

It does, however, present me with some opportunities I\u2019ve never had on a ship before: I\u2019m technically a guest (though I\u2019m being sponsored by a crew member, so I can\u2019t do anything too<\/em> crazy) \u2013 I can sit on bar-stools, stay out past curfew (yeah we have one), wear jeans in the buffet line-up. It is all kinds of strange\u2026<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also giving me a chance to get some work done as far as prep for next cruise, not to mention dropping off my uniforms. There\u2019s the usual onboard meetings and raft\u00a0 drills to attend\u2026and then once all that is done\u2026.I get to have the very unusual experience of being a lady of leisure for two weeks\u2026<\/p>\n
