I\u2019ll be brutally honest here \u2013 I didn\u2019t want to take this contract. It\u2019s only a month long, but losing this particular<\/em> month this close the wedding? This close to everything else<\/em> that is so much more important? That\u2019s a tough decision to have to make. Most of my choices aren\u2019t very money driven, but this one was. I couldn\u2019t afford to take 5 straight months off before getting married, so my boss was kind enough to give me a month long filler in the middle.<\/p>\n Practically, it makes a very great deal of sense.<\/p>\n Emotionally? Leaving town in April when you\u2019re getting married in June? That may not have been my wisest move, there is so much<\/em> to do at home \u2013 and most of it is fun stuff, fun important BIG stuff! That I\u2019m finding it increasingly difficult to be\u2026here\u2026instead.<\/p>\n But that said, it IS only for a month. That\u2019s only four Fridays! And then I get to be back home.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve been giving a lot of thought to the concept of \u201chome\u201d these days. I found myself getting extremely upset yesterday when I was sitting in the welcome onboard meeting and the HR Manager had the nerve to say \u201chonestly THIS is your home, because how much time do you spend anywhere else?\u201d; because nope this isn\u2019t my home. Never has been. The flagship perhaps almost<\/em> was, but ships in general? Nope, not home.<\/p>\n And nope, no one gets to say that it is. Not nobody not no how.<\/p>\n This? It is a career, like any other. It has its ups and its downs. These days it is \u2013 I\u2019ll admit \u2013 wearing a little<\/em> thin\u2026at times, in places.<\/p>\n But the guests this contract so far are funloving, and kind, and the management team is laid back and seems to genuinely care at least a little.
