Let\u2019s see, what is new in the world of Shaughnessy. Not much I\u2019m afraid. I\u2019ve gone from world traveler to homebody, with a normal 9-5 life like so many others. And honestly, I\u2019m pretty okay with that. I will admit though, that it doesn\u2019t make for very entertaining reading, that\u2019s why I\u2019ve been so quiet since we got home. For the first while we were recovering, and now we\u2019re just living a nice quiet existence.<\/p>\n

It feels like a bit of a reprieve from the world really.<\/p>\n

Well, not entirely. I am still highly aware of what\u2019s going on out there. Cases on my little island are up, people are starting to be foolish and getting cracked down on for it (seriously, don\u2019t have a party of 40 people), and signs that the plague is still upon us are everywhere. Ghost Tours are still up and running but held to groups of ten rather than our usual 30, and masks continue to be the newest fashion statement (I have 10 now, with my eye on a few others specifically for work)\u2026this is our new reality, and we have adjusted to it as best we can.<\/p>\n

Except when we don\u2019t want to.<\/p>\n

With all the insanity going on in the world right now, it is often necessary to escape into\u2026something. Anything. For me? That\u2019s usually one of three things: my embroidery (the little side business I\u2019m trying to start up actually has a surprising amount of commissions coming in!), reading (currently delving into a magical revolution) and\u2026.wandering around the world of Skyrim.<\/p>\n

Playing this game is like falling into a giant interactive novel. I have never <\/em>played a game like this. It allows you to totally lose track of where you are and just\u2026step into somewhere else for a while. And there is a tremendous sense of accomplishment when you learn a new skill in-game. I can\u2019t really describe the surge of pride when I hit 100 proficiency in archery. I may or may not have done a little happy dance in my chair. It\u2019s not much, but it\u2019s one of those little things that makes things feel a little less crazy.<\/p>\n

I mean hey, I\u2019ve never claimed not to be a nerd. So when you give me a game that is completely open world and lets me choose whichever branch of the story I want to run after in any order, or just make up my own story<\/em> then\u2026.yup, I\u2019m going to jump into that head first.<\/p>\n
