\"\"<\/a>My mother was joking yesterday that I should go to the Valentine\u2019s Day ball dressed in purple, or black or bright yellow, as a silent rebellion against the sea of red and pink.\u00a0 I will admit it was a tempting thought, but I don\u2019t think our CD would have thought much of it, so I was a good girl, and wore red. Which results in my blending nearly completely into the background.<\/p>\n

The showroom truly did look spectacular, since it was the last grand ball before the masque at the end of the cruise the team almost outdid themselves. Red and pink glimmer curtains streamed down the walls and over the railings, tiny lights shaped like roses balanced precariously on the brass rail the bordered the stage and turned it into a raised dance floor (which I danced on at least once, despite my sky-high heels), and there were tiny shimmering foil hearts scattered all over the floor (goddess bless poor housekeeping after a ball, always having to clean up fanci-fetti). Everywhere you looked you saw red and pink shining swaths of fabric (all of which had to be taken down and folded at the end of the night of course).<\/p>\n

It was, all in all, a good party. A difficult one for a lot of us personally, since much of the crew is separated from their loved ones or in the depths of one of the complicated emotional situations that just seem to go along with life \u2018below the waterline\u2019 \u2013 but whether fresh from a break up or fresh from an engagement, work comes first around here \u2013 and in this case, at least the job is enough fun to distract us.<\/p>\n

As an aside,\u00a0 I can apparently almost dance Latin…something which startles me as me and ballroom dancing never precisely have gotten along (too many\u00a0 times being stepped on in the line of dance I think) \u2013 but one of the guest ents dances latin, and she decided that she didn\u2019t want to dance alone. Rachelle is not precisely the type of girl you say no to, since she will (and did) simply drag you to the floor whether or not there\u2019s anyone else out there. So yes, I can apparently can somewhat follow Latin..<\/p>\n

The after party was a lot quieter than usual \u2013 I suspect because, it being Valentine\u2019s Day and all, many of the people who would usually be partying were otherwise occupied.<\/p>\n
