Nine To Five – At Sea – [02/01/2013]

Fullsize - CG City GirlOh my god, my days are gettin’ longer
And there’s no turnin’ back
I’m workin’ nine to five

Sea days, sea days and more sea days.  The ship is rolling like a cork in a bathtub, and the rough weather kept us from our call in the Cook Islands this morning. To be honest, we were expecting this, as the weather was predicted yesterday. Before closing last night we all received two schedules, one for the scheduled port day and one for the anticipated sea day, so at least it didn’t catch anyone by surprise.

The thing is, it does mean a 5 sea day stretch until our next landfall. 5 days of bored guests, strained staff and fraying tempers. Though the guests never see the fraying tempers of course. We save those for the phone calls home and the random fits of hysteria that manifest in either inexplicable tears or manic fits of laughter. Just another day at the office!

New Zealand will feel most welcome after all this. I love New Zealand, it reminds me of home, only warmer!

In the meantime, things continue to go well. Sea days tend to bleed into one another and one day becomes much like the next. The ever-shifting view outside my office window presents a continuous vista of blue, white and grey, and my library remains free of vashda narada (Dr Who reference, for those of you who are going ‘wha…?’), the café is still well stocked with chai tea and chocolate chip cookies and I’m still getting along with my roommate (we’ve both gotten hooked on the show Revenge …I’m trying to decide if this is a good thing).

La la how the life goes on…
