So, there is one grand prize for the All You Need Is Love Ball tonight. In order to win this fantastic grand prize, the guests have to guess how many li’l tiny hearts are in a champagne flute that is kept on my desk until three pm when I will trot it down to the CD’s office for the final count. This sounds like a simple enough task, but the thing is – you can’t touch the glass, and you can’t trust the guests. These are two factors that greatly affect how this contest affects a librarian’s day.
You see, the great majority of my day is in fact not spent at my desk. I do a surprising amount of running around: reshelving, facing all the shelves, even the occasional check in with the travel guide to get information for guests. Heck, even to get my tea I have to leave my desk.
Since the guests cannot touch the glass, and since therefore have to keep an eye on it at all times – this means that I cannot leave my desk, and if in fact I do leave my desk – I have to take the glass with me. Wherever I go for the rest of the day I have to carry this sparkly champagne flute around with me.
I can hear people giggling from here.
Seriously, this makes the job somewhat difficult! You try carrying a big stack of hardcovers onehanded while balancing a champagne flute full of glitter in your other hand.
Yeah yeah, I know, I have a bizarre job with equally bizarre problems….
Librarian problems.
Seriously, you should add yours to the site! http://librarianproblems.com/
