Grecian Urns – Katakolon, Greece – [08/02/2013]

better_days_by_enchantedwhispers-d4hruzmKatakolon is one of those ports where there isn’t a great deal to do once you’ve been there before – unless you are taking the tour out to Olympia which, even after several calls here still has not lined up for me.

Instead, I spent a pleasant hour winding my way up and down the causeway, looking at dresses I didn’t need and figurines I couldn’t afford. As always, the only figure that I am drawn to is the near life-sized replica of Diana, the goddess of the Hunt, who one day really should grace my shrine, but I can never find a small version of her that has a nice face. So season after season in every greek port I visit I stare at the same large statue of her and wish I could simply cave in and spend what truly is a ridiculous amount of money for a statue I would have no room for!

This is a bit of a stop gap port for us, the only reason we call here is for the Olympia tours, before we head off once again to larger ports. Next up Corfu, which is yet another place I’ve never been.

As usual, happiness makes me more creative. Yesterday I sat down to revamp a manuscript that I hadn’t touched for well over a decade, only to find that another completely different story spilled out of my fingertips instead. It’s been a long time since that happened.

Heavy winds in the area have prevented us from leaving on time tonight – I wonder if this is a common thing along this route as this happened with one of the other ports as well. This doesn’t mean that the guests can leave the ship for an extended period of time (all the gangways and such are long since stowed as our all aboard was 5pm and it’s now nearly 6),  it just means we sit at the dock for a few hours waiting for the wind to die down. Safety issues do happen obviously, and we can’t seem to get Mother Nature on the cell phone these days! She’s so uncooperative!

Looks up, winces, and skillfully dodges lightning bolt
