The name Toni Warne meant nothing to me when I first heard it. I knew she’d been on television, but since I purposely don’t follow reality TV (I haven’t even watched Dancing with the Stars for ages now) I’m rather out of the loop when it comes to who’s won what. But I did meet her, and she turned out to be a lovely person, but as usual, whether I went to the show or not was probably going to depend on how I felt after shift and a myriad variety of other factors. Every so often a guest ent show comes along that is the perfect combination of amazing charts, great musicians and a killer headliner. Even more rarely than that, a show comes along that meshes all those elements into something that is greater than the individual components, and the energy that pours off the stage is like plugging yourself into an amplifier.
This one? This one goes to 11 mate…
This one definitely went to 11.
I’ve been fortunate enough to see a lot of amazing performers during my time on ships, especially since I’m lucky enough to do the GWV where we feature big name headliner entertainers. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to get an adrenaline buzz from a show that I’m not actually performing in. That takes something special, something nearly chemical, that exists in only the best performances out there. The last time I truly experienced it was when I saw Doc Severson play two seasons ago, and lo and behold, I got it last night.
There are times when I consider myself truly blessed to be where I am in my life, and my career. Then there are times when my life simply hands me precisely what I need on a platter and it’s something beyond blessed, its’ as if the universe is saying ‘hey, I know you’ve had it rough, here this’ll make you feel better’.
This was one of those nights.
