Wind-down – Ketchikan – [09/08/2011]

Sunset Over Alaska

Gradually the ship is starting to wind down. Like a clockwork doll who’s limbs have been wound too tightly for a while, we are starting to slowly click down to zero. Those of us that will be finishing our contracts two weeks from now are memorizing phone numbers and marking off names. Those of us going on to the 35-day  run to Hawaii are hitting the gm in a last ditch effort to become beach-worthy.

Me, I’m trying to start switching gears – so that I’m ready to go back to a world where my habit of wearing cocktail dresses on smart-casual nights won’t be looked at as odd, and wehre formal nights will once again mean evening gloves and diamond hair clips.

It’s still up in the air where I’m going to be after I complete my Grand Asia/Australia contract in January. If I’m lucky enough to be extended my future will be guaranteed until August. If I’m not – well, two of my ship-side “siblings” would love to have me come to their ships (I wish they were on the same one!) – but I really could go anywhere.

You would think the transtion would get easier the more you do it…

It doesn’t…
