I dreamed I was lying naked on a beach in the South Seas, and the tide was coming up over my toes, and the sun was beating down…and I felt hot and cold at the same time…- The Shadow
Well…I was wearing a bathing suit but that said, I still did spend the day lying on a beach in the South Seas.
‘Isle de pins’ translates into “Island of Pines”, but you could easily call it island of paradise an not be too far off the mark.
The island isn’t very big, and the tender ride over is thankfully of the best kind – smooth and short. White birds, white sand, blue water, it looks like something out of a postcard – the kind of thing you never really think you’ll see in real life. I remember having a similar reaction the first time I saw Grand Turk from the deck of the ship I was on at the time – but Grand Turk is commercial and fully built up from the moment you step on the dock, this place is not. And it’s better for it….
The beach rings the whole island, but most of us drifted slightly inland to one of the bays where there was more shelter and less in the way of rough water. Instead there were great rolling waves that never broke, just laid themselves out on the land without a ripple. The water is a crystal clear blue, and just cold enough to refresh you without chilling you, and there’s just enough shade to cut the sun without blocking it. While it doesn’t make for a very interesting blog entry, there are a far worse ways to spend a day than with a good book, good friends, a beach towel, cool water and a healthy dose of naturally provided vitamin D…
You rang? …
You heard.?
