Pour Me Somethin’ Tall and Strong…. – Hualtuco, Mexico – [12/10/2011]

There are many different types of therapy, some of which costs you thousands, some of which costs you nothing at all. For myself, I literally live on my therapy, and in ports like this, especially on days like this…the best thing I can do for myself is get myself away from my desk, step off the ship and onto the white sand that lies not twenty feet from the gangway…and dive straight into the water.

Sunshine and salt water make everything better.

The really nice thing about Hualtuco is that you only have to take a few steps and you really are on the beach. Once you fend off the locals who are determined to rent you a jet-ski or a banana boat or take you snorkeling (eventually they do get the message and leave you alone), the water is absolutely heavenly.

All there really is to the port is the beach, if you try to go beyond that small stretch of sand and civilization you will find nothing but forest and sand cliffs. I’ve never really seen anything quite like it, with the exception of Isle Des Pins, which was similar in its size, but lusher in its vegetation. I suppose every tropical paradise is a little bit different.

It was so very much what I needed. This month is probably the most challenging of my contract, and relaxation comes very rarely. Before this I had a partner, after this I’ll have a partner again – this is the only month where I’m by myself, but hey, I’m a big girl, I can get through anything…

As long as I have my ocean once in a while.
