It’s been a hard few days, very busy and very exhausting. The kind of days where you reach 10 o’clock in the evening and realize you’ve barely eaten a thing, that you’ve been keeping yourself going on hot chocolate and crackers, so you order a bagel from room service before you simply pass out into bed.
The first formal ball of the season glitters ahead of us like some kind of fairy tale waiting to be unwrapped. For the guests, it’s simply another formal night, for many this will be their first ball ever, and well I remember the first time I stepped up to play princess. Despite the work that goes on behind the scenes, it is still bound to be a beautiful night. I almost wish that it was a different theme than black and silver, as my black and silver gown is my oldest and the one that most everyone has seen. My new gowns, all three in various shades of blue, won’t come out of my closet until much later in the cruise.
The rest of the team was on balloon brigade duty this afternoon, wheras I was manning my desk, so I was spared the helium games for once 😉
We all have our assigned roles when it comes to decorating for a ball. We no longer do the decorating in the evening, but in the afternoon instead – which means a much better element of surprise because the guests are seeing it for the first time when they walk in at night, rather than having looked at it all day long. Anyway, everyone has their things that they do. Jacobs does the hallways, Della wraps the pillars, and me? I climb the walls. Er…I actually mean that literally. I could explain, but it would take too much time.
