In Llama Land – Lima, Peru – [01/14/2013]

ReverieI am both sorry and not sorry to say that I did not get off the ship in Peru. The decision not to do so was nothing to do with the port itself, well not really, and more to do with the fact that I have been so exhausted lately that when faced with the choice between being able to sleep till I actually woke up naturally, or get myself up early enough to have a decent amount of time in town and allow for the hour long bus trip either way – well, sleeping won. I must have needed it J

That said, from what I was able to sense of Peru as I drifted about the ship throughout the day it seems a nice enough port of call. As is so often the case on the long cruises, the ship is docked in an industrial port so you don’t get much of a view from the upper decks. Unless you like cranes of course. But the weather was lovely, warm without being too hot, overcast without being terribly dreary.

I would have loved to have gone to the local market, especially once I saw the rainbow converse runners my boss picked up (want!!!) but that hour long bus ride just deterred me, and I did have some extra work to catch up on. So I took the opportunity to simply enjoy a day without anyone banging on my door so to speak. In this line of work the chance to simply sleep until you wake up is a rarity to be savoured.

All in all, the GWV continues to slide along at a smooth pace. We’re still in the first third of the cruise, which means that everyone is still very lovey dovey. The dip will come soon enough, so we’re all savouring the plateau while it lasts.
