Water water everywhere. Being at sea for a long stretch gives a whole new meaning to the term ‘middle of nowhere’. Just a little speck moving through the endless ocean, it’s enough to make you feel very small if you think about it.
That said, life within the ship continues to be pretty bright. We have a lot of first time world cruisers with us this year and that lets those of us who may have gotten complacent over the years view our floating lifestyle through fresh eyes. It’s kind of like watching a child in Disneyland for the first time. With Peru behind us, we’re now making our way slowly but surely to the elusive Easter Island, and I’m crossing fingers that I’ll at long last be able to get off the ship. After that we’ll do a scenic cruise of Pitcairn island, something that I’ve never done before and which I’m greatly looking forward to. Though Pitcairn makes me sad, as it reminds me that my dear HMS Bounty now rests at the bottom of the ocean just like her namesake.
In the meantime, everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. A long stretch of sea days like this is a hard slog for the crew and most of us look forward to retiring to our cabins at night with a longing that is difficult to describe. At the moment I have my own room, a lovely quiet one up on the top deck, however, that cabin is needed for incoming officials, and I’ll be moving back down below the water line and bunking up with a roommate as of the end of the month. Neither myself nor the roommate-to-be are pleased with this development, but it’s nothing we can help and thankfully at least we get along.
A lot of new entertainers on this cruise. Last night we featured an ABBA tribute group, which – much to the distaste of the musicians who had to play the show (most musicians that I know detest ABBA, simply because they have to play it *so often*) had the audience in stitches and cheers for the whole show, always a good sign. I’ll admit that their version of The Winner Takes It All was one of the best I’ve heard outside of the original. But then I have a weakness for that song, so perhaps I’m bias.
All in all, life simply goes on. In the evenings I curl up on my couch (taking joy in it while I still have a couch!) and work on my cross-stitch and watch Once Upon A Time (which I have almost finished, and for which I am lacking the second season! Gah!) or some other equally addictive program…or I lose myself in Mists of Avalon which has once again dropped into my life at an odd time. This book follows me I swear…and it usually shows up for a reason, maybe this time I’m supposed to actually finish it.
You are missing the second season of Once Upon a Time, because you forgot to supply someone with the means to supply it to you. To be rectified at once upon the time of your return to home port. ;p
