Hot, Hot, Hot – At Sea – [02/28/2013]

I have neve30x40Perfumer had a good tolerance for heat; my complexion is far too fair to ever be a sun baby. And it is hot on this ship at the moment.

As we approach Indonesia and the Philippines the heat beats down on the ship’s massive glass windows like an invisible hammer. The air conditioning is blasting full power, but it can’t do much against the constant assault caused by a lot of glass and a lot of sunshine. It’s like living inside a magnifying glass held by a particularly cruel child with a dislike for ants (that example made total sense in my head, and not so much sense after I wrote it, sorry about that.) The air is like thick molasses, it seems to congeal around us and stick to us and sap all our energy.

It is, in other words, most unpleasant.

It’s the kind of weather where at the end of your shift you throw yourself into your cabin below decks and turn up the AC as cold as it will go and just lie there and do nothing for an hour until you have to go back to work.

Blah.

Heat.

Me hates it.

In other news: the most stressful week of the world cruise is slowly drawing to a close. The CEO will depart at our next port of call, after the huge party Bali-themed party that has been an entire year in the planning is all done and dusted. That’s only a few days away. Hard to believe it’s come so quickly. Hard to believe any of this has come so quickly really, soon we’ll be past the half-way mark, and the roller coaster will start heading down with ever quickening speed towards Fort Lauderdale and the completion of another season.
