I don’t remember the last time I was in Cadiz, though I know it must have been sometime within the last year as it’s a regular stop on the world cruise. I remember the narrow twisting streets and the ice cream shop across the street from the wide steps of the Cathedral. I remember liking it here. But it’s so often the second to last port on the run that it fades from memory quickly, eclipsed by the vast stretch of sea days that spill out between here and Florida.
We have only one more port day after this – in Portugal. I’m used to that as well, since the stop in Portugal is always the last one on the run for the GWV unless we’re doing the route that goes via south Africa like we did last season.
Once again this morning I was at work before the sun came up, and the twinkling lights of the Spanish skyline blinked at me in the dim twilight outside my office window. Reminding me once again that we’re going backwards, gaining time with each mile we sail – with sunrise getting later and later as we go. It goes quickly though, and by the time 9am rolls around the sky glows a bright lustrous blue over the industrial structures of the port.
One more port day after this before we plunge into the crossing ,with all of its ‘special’ offerings: talent shows, extra bingo sessions, karaoke competitions, bridge instruction, anything and everything to get these people up and moving and interested while we are caged on this ship for 9 days at sea. Or in my case for ….12 days (as in I can’t get off the ship for 12 days! AAAH!!) since I won’t be able to go shore-side in FLL (turn around day after a crossing, I don’t think so) and we have at least one more sea day after that before we finally hit Grand Turk.
I am the first one to admit that I’m not a shopping girl. I really hate being typical, and everyone I know will vouch for how guilty I always feel at spending money. That said, maybe I was overdue to treat myself? I’m not really sure. Actually, I blame Alice – who I ran into the hall and announced that she was going shoe shopping.
Yeah…what can I say? The boots were on sale! And they’re cute! Super cute! No idea where I’m going to wear them, but still super cute!
*sigh* fine, every so often I get to be a typical girl…
